Patrick's obituary

Patrick James Steinwand, 54, of Taylors Falls, MN passed away unexpectedly on September 30th, 2023 while traveling to visit family in Colorado. He had pulled off I-80 at a rest area in Nebraska, where he then passed peacefully while resting in his car. Fittingly, the Nebraska DOT rest area sign overlooking the parking lot reads “Good Life. Great Journey.”

Patrick was born at the USAF Hospital in Minot, ND to parents Kathryn (Hohl) and James Steinwand. Eventually, the Steinwand family ended up in Roseville, MN, where Patrick graduated from Roseville Area High School (formerly Alexander Ramsey) in 1987. He held various jobs throughout his life and made many friends along the way.

Patrick was a patient and caring father, a doting grandfather, and a thoughtful friend. A true Steinwand, Patrick loved baseball (always rooting for the home team); collecting trinkets (often those “As seen on TV!”); participating in trivia competitions (being a know-it-all is a family value); cracking jokes (which were sometimes funny); and talking about driving and owning as many cars as possible. His enthusiasm for vehicles was surpassed only by his love of Diet Coke (another family trait).

Like his mother before him, Patrick dealt with an early diagnosis of, and progressively worsening, Multiple Sclerosis, which in his later years began to severely impact his quality of life. Through his physical and emotional struggles, Patrick worked to maintain his connections and relationships.

Patrick is survived by children Emma (Chris) Headley, Lee (Jordan) Sattler, and Alex Schultz; grandchildren Elise, Elena, Dakota, and Michael; younger siblings Jennifer (Pete Hansen) Steinwand and Fawkes (Robyn) Char; many nieces and nephews; and life-long friends. He was preceded in death by mother Kathy in 2011 and father Jim in early 2023, along with grandparents and many aunts and uncles through the years.

A Celebration of Life for Patrick will be held at the Golf View Room at the Cedarholm Golf Course Clubhouse in Roseville, MN on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Visitation is at 10:00am. Words of remembrance begin at 11:00. All are welcome to join us and stay for pizza and refreshments.

Memorials preferred to the National MS Society.
