Patrick's obituary

Patrick Gerard Kirwan, 69, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on September 13, 1956, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Patrick lived a life rooted in love, kindness, and deep devotion to his family.

Patrick was the proud father of three daughters: Christina Kirwan (Greg Welch), Robin Myette (Allan Myette), and Holly Kirwan (Rod Forbes). His daughters were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and the families they built. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Anna and Eva Kirwan-Welch; Jane, Will, and Leo Myette; and Hayes Forbes. Patrick also had a special place in his heart for his grand-dogs—Scotia, Winnie, and Abby—who brought him endless joy and companionship. With a Tim's in hand, and a pocket of candy Patrick spent many of his later years delighting in the laughter and energy of his grandchildren, finding happiness in their presence.

Patrick enjoyed a long and loyal career at Michelin Tires, where he worked for 36 years. Known for his dedication, sense of humor, and kindness toward colleagues, he formed lasting friendships that endured well beyond his working years. While maintaining a full-time job, Patrick was also a devoted father who never missed an opportunity to support his daughters. Whether cheering from the sidelines or coaching their softball teams for several years, he was always present—offering encouragement, wisdom, and love. His daughters will forever cherish the memories of his unwavering support, thoughtful advice, and the steady presence he provided throughout their lives. Patrick was an avid sports fan since he was young. Everyone knew him as the Boston Bruin and Red Sox Fan.

He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Lillian MacEachern and Bernadette MacLean. Together they shared a lifetime of memories that reflected the deep bonds of family. Patrick was predeceased by his parents, Mildred and Leo Kirwan, as well as his siblings Cecilia, Blase, Mary, Willie, and Leo.

One of Patrick’s most profound personal achievements was his journey of sobriety. For the past nine years, he attended AA meetings in Calgary with steadfast commitment. Through honesty, compassion, and quiet strength, Patrick became a source of inspiration to many within the AA community. He offered support and encouragement to others walking the same path and formed deep friendships that were marked by mutual respect and gratitude.

In the last year of his life, Patrick faced a new cancer diagnosis followed by additional complications. Despite these challenges, he never lost hope or his sense of humor. Even in difficult moments, he continued to bring smiles to those around him—including the nurses and doctors who cared for him—with his wit and warmth.

Patrick will be remembered for his strength of character, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His presence touched many lives deeply. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
