Pat and I were ATO fraternity brothers at the University of Kentucky...he was a junior the year I pledged (spring 1967) and was already regarded as a ‘legend’ by most of my pledge brothers: his reputation was firmly established as a ‘hard and fair’ man. All of my experiences with him reinforced that reputation and from what is written in his obituary, I see that such behavior formed his character as an adult. We connected on social media but did not maintain a close, personal relationship and that is regrettable. I am sorry for the loss you have suffered. I know he was a fine man. For even a brief time, I was fortunate to number him among my friends.
What can be said about this guy. He was my best friend's dad. He hosted me for many Christmas Eves, drinking whiskey, playing pool, and letting us be us without judgment.
