Tim's obituary

Patrick Timothy “Tim” Collins, age 71 of Petoskey, Michigan passed away Friday, October 14, 2022.

Tim was born February 21, 1951, in Petoskey, Michigan, to Norman Jack and Vivian Ann (March) Collins. He grew up at various Naval bases throughout the United States, and returned to his birthplace where he graduated from Petoskey High School in 1969. He was proud of his Petoskey family heritage, and Click Road is named after his maternal great Grandfather.

Tim had a beautiful spirit. He loved life and others fiercely. You knew when he thought something was really funny, because he laughed so hard he would cry. He turned the radio up to his favorite songs, and used his steering wheel as a drum. He loved the Beatles. He took walks everyday to admire nature’s beauty. He tried not to miss sunsets - especially over Lake Michigan. He encouraged adventure in others. He was a true handyman and could fix anything, and believed in the power of duct tape.

As a child, he loved sports and competed on the swim team, always taking 1st or 2nd place. He played high school basketball, and taught his daughter to play. They played games of HORSE and around the world into his 70’s.

He loved life on the road and adventure, and lived in California, Minnesota, Toronto and Florida as an adult. He married Denette Curtis in 1985, and they raised their daughter, MacKenzie Collins, in Waconia, Minnesota.

Tim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He was compassionate, kind, sensitive and funny. He always found time to send cards to others on important occasions in which he wrote meaningful messages. He had an entrepreneurial strength and positive attitude that took him to great heights in his career as an accomplished marketing and sales professional.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Vivian Collins; second wife, Patricia(Slanga) and brother-in-law, Thomas Merta, Sr. He’s survived by his daughter, MacKenzie Collins of Truckee, CA, his sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline Collins Merta Gingras and Francis Gingras of Traverse City, MI, his nephew, Thomas E. Merta, Jr., and his first wife, Denette Collins.

The family will have a memorial service at a future date for friends and family to gather. Please visit his EverLoved site to share stories and donate to a memorial fund https://everloved.com/life-of…
