Patty's obituary

Patricia "Patty" Thoresen, age 66, passed from this life on March 25, 2026. Her familiar, welcoming presence will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was born on September 24, 1959 in Elkhart, IN to the late Riley and Mary Ann Freed. Along with her parents, Patty was also predeceased by her loving husband of 32 years, Steve Thoresen, her grandson, Fischer Dunkum, and her brother, Kent Freed.

During her lifetime, Patty was a beacon of faith and hospitality. Known for her principle to "pray without ceasing," she held strongly to her faith as she navigated life's trials and advocated for the importance of celebration. Her greatest accomplishment was her family; her marriage to Steve, and her three beloved children. Patty's legacy is one rooted in faith and reliance on Jesus, an inheritance she hoped to pass on to her cherished family.

Patty is survived by her daughter, Katie Dunkum, her sons, Jake and Jonathan Thoresen, her sisters, Teri Cummings (Kenne) and Kathy Blessing (Ron), granddaughters, McKenzie and Olivia, daughters-in-law, Cassie Thoresen and Jessica Moody and her grandson, Caleb. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved deeply.

A graduate of Riverview High School in Sarasota, FL class of 1978, Patty was an active member of Renewal Church (formerly Sarasota Alliance) for over 32 years. Throughout her years there, she touched countless hearts with her kindness and her steadfast faith.

A celebration of Patty's life will be held on April 11, 2026, at 10:30am at Renewal Church 7221 Bee Ridge Rd. All those who knew her are welcome to attend and commemorate the wonderful woman she was. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation at www.pkdcure.org

While we mourn the loss of Patty, we also celebrate the love and faith she shared with all of us. Her spirit will continue to live on through the lives of her family and friends. Her memory will forever be held close in our hearts.
