Patricia's obituary
As a teenager, Patricia was a talented and very astute young woman who was known for her infamous smile. As a young woman she enjoyed life and took advantage of opportunities presented to her to learn and grow. This passion for life and learning led her to attend Jackson State University, where she started a family legacy and tradition for her younger siblings and children. This legacy produced first and second-generation Miss JSU queens, band members, cheerleaders/tumblers, and much more.
On October 16, 1976, Patricia was united in holy matrimony to Alfred Odell Thomas Sr. Their union resulted in seven children. Patricia wore many hats during her life but considered her role as a wife and mother her highest priority. As a dedicated mother, Patricia gave her best to her children and family. Her heart for family encompassed her devotion to faithfully and wholeheartedly serve God, which she instilled in her children. Patricia was truly a kind and compassionate person that lived her life in full expression of the Proverbs 31 woman.
Patricia worked at the Cary Christian Center from 1978-1999. She started as a receptionist but moved on to become the bookkeeper and eventually became the Director of the Center. During her tenure there, she mentored many, taught an afterschool Bible class, and made many lasting friendships.
Patricia also spent time in ministry by singing in the choir and serving as an alternate Sunday School teacher at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. C. B. Smith. Patricia even managed to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Belhaven University, while still cultivating her gifts and love for God.
Patricia was an educator at South Delta School District where she would serve from 2000-2020. She managed to educate and mentor many students over the years, inspiring them to be entrepreneurs, financially aware, and productive citizens. She loved teaching and loved her students. She even served as a track coach! Patricia would go on to receive her Master of Education degree from Mississippi College. She eventually retired after 20 years of teaching, due to her battle with cancer.
Patricia continued her work in ministry as member of the House of Peace International under the leadership of Apostle Linda Sweezer. As a member, she was loved by her Pastor, First Man, and the entire House of Peace Worship Church International congregation from all locations. Patricia continued her dedication to education by earning her Bachelors in Theology from Grace through Faith School of Ministry at the church. Her faithfulness to the Lord was demonstrated in all that she dutifully and consistently did at her church. She was the Director of the Drama Ministry, Secretary at the Rolling Fork location of The House of Peace Worship Church International, member of the choir, the Senior Finance Ministry, Minister of the Gospel, Hospitality Ministry, Intercessory Prayer Team, Former Girly Girls Club Mentor, Site Supervisor for the summer program at the Church and a member who could be counted on at all times!
