You were my pottery teacher in high school at Oswego east in the year 2014, you were one of my favorite teachers. I’ve since moved to Arizona and was just talking about you with some of my friends about the pottery class I took. Googled you, and was heartbroken to find out you passed. You were an amazing person and I hope your family is doing well. I’ll miss you and thank you for being you.

Patty was a wonderful person. I’ve always had fond memories of her as my art teacher in high school. She was funny, talented, creative, and really cared about her students. She made art class so much fun! I’m sorry to hear of her passing. I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Forever in my heart dear friend! Rest peacefully without pain and suffering. Fly high and dance with the angels.

The virtual service was filled with beautiful words and stories of Patty. All which affirmed that she was always herself, no matter what years we knew her and spent time with her. My funny memory to share of Patty is that when I was a little girl, I renamed my Cabbage Patch doll "Patty" because I thought that cute little doll looked like Patty O'Mara. She was such an amazing presence. Thank you for sharing her with us all.
Patty was my dear sister
And, like all who knew her, will dearly miss her

Full of courage and spunk
She never took any junk

Beautiful both inside and out
Style, Grace, and Will... No doubt

Great wife and Mom
No doubt... She was the bomb
In 1984 when Patty and I first met we were working as part-time tellers at the Avenue Bank in Oak Park while each of us attended college, she an art student and I a nursing student. My first impression of her was this pretty young woman, confident with a glamorous style. I assumed she was a rich girl from River Forest and she wouldn’t have much interest in me- for I was a bit less confident and unpolished. She’d be wearing fashionable clothes- the blouse, the skirt, the shoes—my god-THE SHOES- and the accessories, always looking pulled together, appearing completely comfortable in her own skin. But these were not the trappings from privilege, she worked hard to pay for things and put herself through school to reach her goals. Daily, she’d come into work bounding with energy, laughter and sharing stories from the ordinary to the downright hilarious. I was captivated by Patty’s outgoing personality and her quick wit—which I would later learn is an O’Mara quintessential trait. But most compelling of all- was her unique ability to be inclusive. Pulling other people into her circle, wanting to share something interesting or funny or to learn something new was Patty’s way to show love. She got me to come out of my shell and before long we were fast friends! She has connected with so many, making us feel a part of something special. I feel so fortunate to have known Patty because my life changed exponentially because of her. Not only did she welcome me as her friend, but she helped me become a part of the O’Mara family too when I married her brother, Kevin. Without Patty my whole life would have been different. Who could have guessed the impact that a great friendship can have? Our lives intertwined in so many positive ways. I am truly a better person for having known her. I will be forever grateful for our friendship and will cherish the memories we shared. When I think of Patty, she will always be strong, funny with acerbic wit, passionate, creative, a loving mom and wife. Lastly, a smile will come across my face as I remember her beauty with her signature fashion style, the scent of “Obsession” perfume in the air and a hint of glitter in her hair! She is one of a kind. Love you Patty. I will miss you.

Love, Sharon O’Mara, a lifelong friend and sister-in-law
