Patricia's obituary
Patricia was born in 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she learned from an early age the strong values of working-class America. While her father served in the Army, her mother balanced caring for infant Patricia with working in a factory to support the war effort. Patricia would later follow their example of self-sacrifice—leaving school at age 17 to join the workforce and help provide for her mother and two younger brothers after her father fell ill. But Patricia’s young life wasn’t all work. In her early 20s she enjoyed summers at the Jersey Shore as well as various Caribbean cruises with her friends.
Patricia was involved with the Catholic Youth Organization, through which she met Thomas Lynch in 1968. They were married a year later. The newlyweds enjoyed their new home on Long Island, N.Y., and taking their boat—the “Patti-Pooh”—on fishing voyages throughout Long Island Sound. Their first child, Thomas Jr., was born in 1973. Daughter Tracie followed a year later.
In 1977, Thomas Sr.’s career brought the family to Waco, where they settled into their home in suburban Hewitt. A third child, daughter Cynthia, was born two years later. The family enjoyed swimming, fishing, and camping at lakes throughout Central Texas, as well as annual summer vacations in Rockport. Patricia excelled at homemaking and motherhood. Thomas, Tracie, and Cynthia’s childhoods featured homemade Halloween costumes, the aroma of Thanksgiving would dominate the home in November, and every corner of every room would be covered in decorations for Christmas.
Patricia also devoted herself to her children’s activities—be it coaching, leading, volunteering, chaperoning or den mothering—her children could always count on Patricia being involved in Scouts, cheerleading, Little League, Vacation Bible School or youth group functions.
Among her children’s favorite memories was the annual Hewitt Christmas Parade, where Patricia’s decorating and arts & crafts skills made their bicycles the envy of the neighborhood.
After several years as a stay-at-home and part-time working mom, Patricia permanently re-entered the workforce in 1988. She would later become manager of her Wal-Mart’s arts & crafts department. Patricia stayed with the company even after Thomas Sr. retired in 2007 and the couple moved to Rockport, where the now empty-nesters—once again—found themselves boating and fishing, this time in the waters of Copano Bay and adjacent Salt Lake.
Neighbors raved about Patricia’s cooking. And grandchildren relished spending summers at “Granny and Pop-Pop’s” house—throwing cast-lines off the dock, visiting the beaches, searching for jellyfish, and enjoying their grandmother’s company.
She was loved by all and will be missed.
