Patricia's obituary
Patricia Ann Huffstutter was born June 22, 1942. She was adopted by the most wonderful parents, Helen and Ralph Sterling.
She grew up on 1240 Franklin Dr in Independence, Missouri surrounded by friends, pets and relatives in a loving home. She attended Bristol Elementary and spent time as a child in Boonville visiting the relatives and riding horses and going on the boat fishing with her dad. When she was 12 away at Girl Scout camp, she developed a bone infection called osteomyelitis and left her in bed for three months to heal.
In high school she was a great student and worked on the yearbook where she met her future husband unbeknownst to her by slapping RL in the face when he called her P Tricia in a teasing way, but it would be a while before they fell in love.
Patricia attended Central Missouri State University and received a bachelor degree in English. She was the editor for the yearbook and she graduated 1964. She was a Sigma Kappa sorority girl. She taught school in Warrensburg for a few years.
She married Robert L Huffstutter on September 13, 1965 in Miami, Oklahoma. She moved back to Kansas City shortly after that and continue to teach middle school at Maple Park. Patricia and Robert had their daughter Wendy in 1972 in Crestview and started a wholesale jewelry business. They all traveled together around Missouri and sometimes out of state selling their products for five years, It was probably the best family time ever. When their daughter started kindergarten Patricia went back to teaching at Antioch middle school until 1992.
She loved teaching school and loved the kids.
Patricia loved feeding the birds and squirrels. She sat for hours outside on the deck watching them. In 2012 She saw a baby squirrel fall out of a nest in the backyard and took care of it and raised it until she released at Hobby Hill Park, then she and Robert checked on it daily and every few days. Even after a long absence, the squirrel that my mom named Ruben would still visit them when called.
When her grandkids were little, she took care of them a lot, she would read to them, pick them up from school, and always attended their school programs. She loved to go fishing with them at local parks.
Patricia was a great wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her dogs and cats. She loved Jesus, and hanging out with Robert and when he died in June, her heart broke. She was always interested in what we were doing. She was patient, slow to anger, was fun to be around and she had a good sense of humor and the purest soul. She was beautiful.
We will be having a small service December 22nd 2:30PM at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
