Pamela's obituary
Pam was born in Cleveland, TN on March 21st, 1955, to Robert Franz and Berta Lunata Wright. There, she spent her formative years calling shopping carts “buggies” and learning phrases like “hot as a blue flugens.”
Her senior year of high school, she moved to Parma, OH, where she met fellow Parma High student, Al Ruck (Cameron in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), who told her on one occasion that she had a “beautiful singing voice.” She then repeated that story to every person she’s ever met since.
In 1977, Pam married the love of her life and eventual pill pusher, Charles Scherer, in a wedding ceremony fashion experts called “a celebration of gaudy, yellow bridesmaid dresses and white lace.” Soon after, she gave birth to two beautiful sons, Nathan and Jared, one of whom achieved fame when his a cappella group was featured in Spanish Rolling Stone, and the other, whose biggest achievement is writing this obituary.
During her time in Ohio, Pam wowed church audiences with superior vocal performances of Sandi Patti’s greatest hits, and fed many a hungry person with comfort food and award winning pies. She made many friends, whom she loved deeply, and got extreme pleasure from embarrassing her children.
In 2014, after many years of complaining about the cold, she packed up her mother and moved to Cape Coral, FL. She was promptly followed by almost all of her close relatives, who immediately purchased annual passes to Disney World and argued over who was going to push her wheelchair when they got there.
Pam is survived by her mother Berta, her husband and caretaker Charles, her son Jared (Jerry), her son Nathan (Meridith), and her beloved granddaughter Marlo, who, let’s face it, is the only reason she stuck around as long as she did. She also leaves behind other family members, including many brothers and sisters-in law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Not to mention a very neurotic and needy grand-dog, Toby.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert in 1976, her brother Tony in 2009, and her kidneys in 2011.
Her family’s most fervent wish is that Heaven has servers who understand the importance of bringing her a glass of tea with no ice and another glass filled with just ice.
A Celebration of Pam’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at Colonial Chapel, 1550 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL. Visitation starts at 10am with a service officiated by Pastor Jim Hurst at 11am. Lunch to follow at noon for family and out of state friends.
