Oz “Ozzie” crossed the rainbow bridge on January 9, 2024. Born June 14, 2007 and brought into our lives on August 20, 2007, Oz was the best dog anyone could ask for. He was named after Oz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (with a nod to the Wizard of Oz). Oz was the sweetest boy who loved all people. He would greet anyone with jumps, tail wags, and kisses. The best greetings, however, were reserved for family. Oz was also a “smarty pants” and knew plenty of tricks including “sit,” “high-five”, “play dead”, “roll-over”, “crawl”, and more. He even gave a hug on command. We were always in awe of Oz’s ability and love of learning. He was a speedster, who loved to run, and could almost give a cheetah a run for their money. Even though he slowed down as he aged, he was still running until the end. Oz was also a playful dog, and a bit of a goofball. He loved playing “keep away” with the ball and shaking his toys/whipping them in the air, occasionally hitting people. Like most pups, he loved food, but never got into anything he shouldn’t. Oz was considered pretty cautious and picky when it came to food. However, some of his favorite snacks included peanut butter, chicken, turkey, popcorn, “strawbabies,” and cheese shared with Karissa. Oz was such a lover. He loved to cuddle, especially next to one of his humans or on a soft bed or blanket. He could often take over the couch or bed with his small body, leaving his humans no room. Giving kisses was one of his favorite things. He would continuously kiss his favorite human’s faces for minutes on end if they’d let him. A good scratch made his day. If you dared to stop “giving him pets,” he’d nudge his nose under your hand for more. He is survived by his favorite humans Mama 1 and Mama 2 (Diana and Karissa), Daddy (Don), and brother Jake. There will always be an emptiness without Oz here, but we will always fondly remember his bright and goofy personality and keep him alive in our hearts.
