Owen's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Owen Christopher Topliff on May 5, 2025. Owen succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on the evening of May 4 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born on May 25, 1997, in Waterloo, Iowa.
Owen is survived by his devoted father, Shawn Topliff; Shawn’s significant other, Jessica Potthoff; and his brother, Ethan Topliff—his best friend. They will forever hold a bond and love that will never fade. His memory is also cherished by his grandparents: Robert Topliff and Marieta Cardamone, Judy Marchese, Gary and Jackie Carter, and Marilyn Jasper. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Leah Topliff, whose memory he continued to honor with affection, often sharing stories that celebrated her life and influence on his character.
Like all of us, Owen faced personal struggles, but had turned his life around and found strength and happiness through his work and relationships. He was deeply devoted to his loved ones, always making time to connect and offer support. His girlfriend, Kelsey, held a special place in his heart, and together they were building a life in Sioux City. They shared a love for their cat, Leroy, and the family dogs, Moose and Ellie.
Owen had a passion for sports and an adventurous spirit that came alive through his enthusiasm for motorcycling and cars. Owen's resilience, love for family, and passion for life will serve as his enduring legacy.
We invite friends and family to join us in commemorating Owen’s life. A visitation service will be held on May 9, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a brief memorial service at the Sherwood Forest Event Center, 7400 Hickman Rd, Windsor Heights, IA. A light dinner will be provided after the service.
In the face of this loss, we find comfort in memories of Owen’s infectious happiness and the love he poured into our lives. He will be missed dearly, but his spirit will continue to live on in our hearts.
