Otis's obituary
Otis James Holloway was born on February 26, 1990, in Smyrna, Georgia, to Kathy Evins and Otis R. Holloway. He attended Peachtree Presbyterian Church Child Development Center, Brumby Elementary, Burnette Elementary, L.W. Burnett Elementary, John W. Stewart Middle School, and Douglas County High School, where he earned varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track. After high school, Otis received a full academic scholarship to Trinity College, where he pursued Political Science, joined Alpha Phi Alpha, and made the Dean's List.
At Trinity, Otis excelled academically and in extracurriculars, completing an internship at Columbia University and studying abroad at the University of Cape Town. He graduated in 2012 and briefly interned with the City of Atlanta’s City Council before pursuing a Master's in Conflict Resolution and International Affairs at American University. There, he mentored through DC Reads and co-founded a student organization Building Relationships and Improving Diverse Graduate Experiences (BRIDGE) to support graduate students of color at American University. He was awarded a Boren Fellowship, studied in Portugal, became fluent in Portuguese, and interned with the U.S. Treasury Department.
Otis earned his M.A. in 2015 and worked as a contract employee for the U.S. Department of State, later becoming a Conflict Resolutionist. He was a Stabilization Advisor for the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, focusing on conflict resolution in Mozambique, Nigeria, and other African countries, briefing high-ranking officials on U.S. Diplomatic strategy.
Otis received multiple honorary awards for his metritis performance and was selected to become a member of BPIA (Black Professionals in International Affairs) Colin Powell Leadership Institute.
Otis passed away on October 23, 2024, at the age of 34, leaving behind a legacy of service, scholarship, and dedication to peace.
