Eulogy – for my wife, Evangelist Oluyomi Modupe Odumosu

We gather here today to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, my wife Evangelist Oluyomi Modupe Odumosu, a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Oluyomi, affectionately known as Yomi by those closest to her, embarked on her earthly journey on October 1, 1957, and was called to her heavenly home on August 25, 2024. Today, as we reflect on her life, we see the tapestry of a life well-lived, woven with threads of kindness, humor, ambition, support, love, and an unwavering commitment to justice and community leadership.

Oluyomi was a woman whose presence was felt and whose absence now leaves a void impossible to fill. Her personality was a rare blend of warmth and strength, making her a pillar in her community and a sanctuary for her family. She always stood by me, her husband, with an unshakeable resolve, supporting me through every season of our lives.

Our love story is one for the ages. It began with a declaration of partnership that blossomed into 46 years of a loving relationship, of which 43 were as husband and wife. Together, we navigated the waters of life, raising a beautiful family and overcoming adversities with grace and unwavering faith.

Yomi's values were the compass by which she navigated her life. Family was her anchor, and caring for others was her nature. Hard work, a trait she embodied and instilled in those around her, was never for personal gain but always in service to others and God. Her faith was a belief and a way of life guiding her actions and interactions. She was an evangelist in the title and every deed, spreading love, hope, and faith to all she encountered.

Her life was marked by memorable milestones, not least of which was the profound love story she shared with me, her husband. From our serendipitous meeting in 1978 to the beautiful family we built together, our journey was a testament to love's enduring power. Yomi's support and love were the bedrock upon which our family was built, her unwavering presence a constant through every trial and triumph.

Yomi's passions and pastimes were as varied as they were noble. A true family builder, she dedicated her life to bringing people together, fostering unity, and nurturing relationships. Her involvement in community leadership was not just a role but a calling through which she touched countless lives, advocating for those without a voice and striving for justice in every endeavor.

The impact of my wife Oluyomi's life on those around her cannot be overstated. As a wife, mother, grandmother, first lady, and friend, she was a source of strength, wisdom, and love. Her acts of kindness and support were as numerous as they were profound, always given freely and from the heart. She lived by the words she always told me,  "God's will shall be done," a mantra that guided her through life's challenges and inspired all who knew her.

Evangelist Oluyomi taught us the true meaning of resilience, the importance of helping others, and the power of unwavering faith. She was a quintessential woman, embodying love and kindness in every aspect of her life. Messages from family and friends speak volumes about the positive impact she had on their lives, a testament to the genuine, caring, and kind-hearted soul she was.

As we remember Oluyomi today, let us celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of love, kindness, genuineness, and caring that touched the hearts of everyone she met. Throughout her life, she demonstrated the profound impact one person can have on the world around them.

Oluwayomi Modupe Odumosu, omo baba Stephen Aderibigbe Olurebi ati mama Titilola Aduni Olurebi iyawo emi Ayoolu Odumosu:

Omo Olowu oduru, Iyeru okin, omo olofa mojo, omo Olowu, Sunre o titi a fi pade lojo ajinde ti akoni yara mo.

In closing, let us reflect on the words that encapsulate Oluyomi's journey: "She has fought a good fight, and finished her course; she kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give her on that day: and not to her alone, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

My dearest darling wife, Evangelist Oluyomi Modupe Odumosu, your race is over. You won your fight, and your legacy will forever light the path for those of us you've left behind..

Rest in peace, my dearly beloved Oluyomi, until we meet again on resurrection day when we will no longer part. Sunre o, Iyawo mi owon

My dear Auntie Yomi . Thank you for the love you’ve shown me from the very moment I came into the family. You guided me on how to be a strong woman , submissive wife, and a mother . I am still that strong courageous women you taught me to be . Rest in peace my dear Auntie Yomi

I was shocked when I heard the news of Aunty Yomi's passing away, it was like a dream, I couldn't believe it, I couldn't understand what happened. Until I was told about her situation. It was a painful thing to take in. But I want to thank God for her life, a godly and a virtual woman who lifted me up on her daily statement on the WhatsApp encouragements platform. Her words echoed into my ears whenever she mentions my name Uncle miran...

It is well with her soul, my prayers to my brother Rev Ayo Odumosu and the children is, may the Lord sustain them and lift them up in times of reflections.

May her soul continues to rest in perfect peace.

My condolences to the families.

Anti Yomi,

I am still on shocked at your passing! I only wished I’d hugged you more the last time I saw you. I will never forget your kindness to me when we first moved to South Jersey. You took me under your wings like a big sister and loved me and my family some more. Distance did separate us, but my love for you remains unabated. The twins, Gaby and Bella used to tease me that your Jollof rice was the best. I  agree. You were their mom when I wasn’t there. Thank you! Rest on beloved❤️

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

May God comfort and uphold the family left behind.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. May our God comfort you all abundantly!

Her husband and I attended the same High school - the Prestigious Apostolic Church Grammar School, Orisigun, along Ikorodu Rd. Legos.

As a Bible Teacher I know that "Biblically Death is an Enemy... The LAST (FINAL) Enemy to be destroyed..."

But I also know that we CHRISTIANS don't die. WE SLEEP IN CHRIST!

It's the reason why our beloved Sister isn't Dead... But ASLEEP in Christ!

According to the book of Thessalonians, she's going to be amongst the FIRST group category of those that'll HEAR the SOUND of the Trumpet- by the Archangel, on the RESURRECTION Morning!

And subsequently descend from Heaven with Jesus the Christ....

It's the reason we say.. GOODNIGHT until the Resurrection Morning (and not goodbye)

Because in the Sweet bye and bye...

We shall meet on that beautiful shore!
