Olive's obituary
Olive Alexi Oliver, age 96, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025 in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on July 16, 1929, in Belize City, Belize, she lived a long and vibrant life filled with love, tradition, and joyful moments that touched all who knew her.
Olive was the beloved daughter of John and Francis Usher and was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Willie Oliver. She was also predeceased by her siblings Tiana Usher, Hortence Usher, and Walter Usher. Her legacy continues through her devoted daughter Helen (Detric) Pierce; grandchildren Ingrid Peyrefitte, Tiffany Peyrefitte, and Shauna Timmons; and great-grandchildren Piper Johnson, Vivica Timmons, Vince Timmons, and Azari Trull.
Olive was employed as a housekeeper in Belize and continued to work as a housekeeper after she moved to the states in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. She retired in October 2001 and began living with her daughter in Memphis.
A woman of warmth and generosity, Olive was known for always having a smile for everyone she met. Her kitchen was the heart of her home—filled with the comforting aromas of Creole bread baking in the oven or corn dukunu steaming on the stove. Cooking and baking were not just hobbies for Olive; they were expressions of love passed down through generations.
In addition to her culinary talents, Olive found joy in quieter pastimes. She spent many hours working on word search puzzles and quilting with care and creativity. In recent years, she delighted in watching DMV dancers on YouTube—a modern touch that brought her laughter and entertainment.
Olive’s love extended beyond people to include her cherished pets: Pepper, Cinnamon, Tiger, Blondie, Midnight, and a turtle named Tot. Each held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Kathy, Tony, and DK for their kindness and support.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
