Olethia's obituary

On October 27, 2024, our beloved matriarch, Olethia Nelson, slipped into the arms of Jesus, at the age of 90. She was born on November 04, 1933, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, as Olethia "Jackie” Matthews. Olethia was a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to love, strength, and resilience.

Throughout her life, Olethia was a guiding force for her family. She dedicated herself to raising her four children, instilling in them the values of faith, kindness, integrity, and hard work. She found immeasurable joy in nurturing and sharing her wisdom with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grand-students.

Olethia was known for her faith and passion for puzzles. In her early years, she loved board games, gardening, and cooking. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of food. She was also famous for her hat collection.

In addition to her family, Olethia had a profound impact on her community, where she worked within the Caesar Rodney School District as a foster grandparent well into her later 80s. Her kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Mae Robinson; father, Carroll Matthews; siblings, Estella "Stella” Johnson, Madeline "Nean" Williams, George H. "Plecky" Pleasants, William Pumprey), Lida C. "Nannie" Parker, Laura H. "Tip" Bartley, and Maybelle "Billie" Smith; and his son, Keith Thomas Brown.

Olethia is survived by her children, Donald Matthews, Leatha Lively, Virginia Stevens, George West (Shireka West), and Marcella Nelson (Frank Nelson); daughter-in-law, Marietta Brown; and a host of five generations of grandchildren.

Olethia Nelson's legacy of love and family will live on in our hearts forever.
