Norma's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Norma Faye Gilbert, born on April 17, 1933, who left us peacefully on March 16, 2024. Norma was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and pillar of her church community.
Norma was predeceased by her loving husband, Oney Gilbert. She leaves behind her doting son Joel Gilbert, her cherished granddaughters Janna Teague, Julie Gilbert Palencia, and Leesa Turner, and her beloved great grandchildren - Simon Goode, Sawyer Goode, Nadja LaPoint, Leora Albert, Katalina Palencia, and Gabriel Palencia. Her family was the centerpiece of her life and she will be profoundly missed by them.
A strong, intelligent, and fiercely independent woman, Norma was described by those who knew her as ahead of her time, bright, and steadfast in her love for the lord and her family. She was the embodiment of determination and grit, always teaching her granddaughters that they could do anything they set their minds to.
From entrepreneur to successful business owner, Norma's journey is a testament to the power of following one's dreams. Her hair salon, Norma's Coiffures, thrived for many years as a hub of beauty, positivity and transformation.
Norma’s hobbies included gardening and cooking. She was renowned for making the best chicken and dumplings and banana pudding. These cherished family recipes will serve as a comforting reminder of the joy she brought into our lives.
Norma’s legacy is one of resilience, hard work, and commitment to family. She instilled in her grandchildren the importance of these values and they are a testament to her life well-lived.
Her absence will profoundly be felt by her family, friends, and church community. Norma's spirit, however, will continue to live on in the stories shared, the lessons imparted, and the love she gave and received. May Norma rest in peace, taking comfort in the trail she blazed and the lives she touched.
