In Loving Memory of Norma Jane Canning (nee Drummond), June 30, 1950-June 11, 2025

Norma passed away peacefully at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. She leaves behind her four sons Derek (Maiko), Shawn (Katherine), Christopher (Laura), and Colin, and her beloved grandchildren Frederic and Frances. She is also survived by her sister Judith (Ken) and half-sister Kathy (Les), nieces Kendra and Tracy, and niece and nephew Jenny and Jamie.

Norma was known for her warm accepting nature, sense of humour, and resiliency of body and spirit. Raised in Montreal by her adoptive parents Kenneth and Patricia Drummond, Norma spent her early adult years mothering her four boys in Montreal, Calgary, Phoenix, and Langley. Norma eventually settled in White Rock, where she enjoyed the slower pace, closeness to the ocean, and community feeling. Decades into her life, she was delighted to reunite with her half-sister and other members of her birth family, allowing her to put together many pieces of her story and identity.

Norma came to find great meaning in supporting and uplifting other women. She cherished and maintained her friendships. She will be fondly remembered as a leader of the welcoming committee at her residence, Evergreen, a frequent sender of cards and handmade gifts to her grandchildren, and one who would never turn down a strong cup of coffee and an authentic conversation.

Norma’s family extends deep gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff who cared for her at Peace Arch Hospital and Evergreen Heights Assisted Living.

A service will be held to honour Norma’s life on Wednesday June 18, 2025 at 2:00PM at Evergreen Community Chapel (1550 Oxford St, White Rock, BC). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ishtar Women’s Resource Society in Langley - https://ishtarsociety.org/
