Norma's obituary
Norma Brookbank died quietly in her sleep on Friday, October 27, 2023, in Aurora, Colorado. She was born Norma Ruth Lutz to Myron and Eleanor Lutz in Oak Park, Illinois, on December 28, 1922. The oldest of five, she was the last surviving member of her family. She grew up in Michigan, and also lived in Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Colorado and California.
Norma graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois in 1946, and continued to work at WMBI Moody Radio as singer and pianist. She is one of three singers featured on the cover of the Singspiration Treble Trios songbooks published in the 1940s and ‘50s. An accomplished musician, she worked with recording artists and soloists at music festivals and performed church music until 2010.
Norma is preceded in death by her first husband Hollis Mitchell on February 12, 1970, and by her second husband Glen Brookbank on October 29 2011. She is survived by her four children, Karen Hensley of Riverside, California, Shirley Berry of Aurora, Colorado, Linda Kaply of San Pierre, Indiana, and James Mitchell of Tallahassee, Florida, and by her step-daughters Bonnie Mackley of Oakland, Michigan and Janie Brookbank of Dunedin, Florida.
Norma will be mourned by her 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, and by her countless friends. Remembrances should be directed to The Gideons International Processing Center, PO Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.
