Norma's obituary

Norma Jean Blanton, 78, passed away peacefully at Cottingham Hospice facility in Seneca, SC, on July 12, 2024. She was born on September 8, 1945, in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Ward C. Smith and Willie Mae Wright Smith.

Norma was predeceased by her two sisters, Peggy Hinnenkamp of Asheville, NC and Dorthy Lalla of Southington, CT, and her infant grandson, Nathaniel Klein. She graduated from Gwinn High School in Michigan in 1963. As a member of an Air Force family, she lived in numerous places, including Shreveport, LA; Columbus, OH; Little Rock and Jacksonville, AR; Greenham Common AFB in Thatcham Newbury, England; London, England; Gwinn, MI; Miami, FL; Taylors and Piedmont, SC.

Norma is survived by her two daughters: Melanie Richards (Robert) of Edisto, SC and Jacqueline Klein (Thomas) of Powdersville, SC; six grandchildren: Brendan Edens, Max Rothgaber, Tiffani Klein, Molly Rothgaber, Michael Rothgaber, and Cheyenne Klein; one great-grand daughter: Shelby and many nieces and nephews.

Norma had a passion for gardening, traveling to visit life-long friends and family, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nana”. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who loved her. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.

In honor of her final wishes, no memorial service will be held.
