Norbert's obituary
Norbert Gruman
June 15, 1962 – May 6, 2025
Norbert Gruman entered God’s embrace peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the age of 62, after a courageous journey with ongoing health complications.
Born on June 15, 1962, in Manchester, Iowa, to John and Diane (Wernke) Gruman, Norbert grew up near Raymond, Iowa, where he spent his youth immersed in the outdoors—fishing, hunting, flying planes, learning craftsmanship, and playing guitar. These early passions shaped his life and career.
A 1980 graduate of Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, IA, Norbert later earned his degree in Applied Science with honors from Iowa Western Community College in 1995, specializing in Tool Design and Development. He was a lifelong learner and problem solver, dedicating his career to innovation in Pro-E design, laser printing, and aluminum casting. Norbert was known for embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and skill.
Faith was the cornerstone of Norbert’s life. He lived his beliefs daily—generously offering his time and talents to help others through home and vehicle repairs, embodying God’s love in action. His servant’s heart touched many lives.
Eventually, his professional pursuits and passion for design brought him near Houston, Texas, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Norbert is lovingly remembered by his parents, John and Diane Gruman, and his siblings: Marie Gruman, Theresa Hankins (John) (Gruman), Bernard Gruman (Marcia), and Stella Pint (Luke) (Gruman). His legacy lives on through his four children—Elizabeth Gruman, Emily Hack (Kevin), Curtis Gruman (Cherokee), and Christopher Gruman (Savannah), his nine beloved grandchildren, and extended family.
A private memorial service will be held at Saint Albert Cemetery in Dundee, Iowa on August 3, 2025 at 1269 110th Ave, Dundee, IA 52038 followed by a celebration of Norbert’s life at Backbone State Park in Delaware County. The memorial service will be at 11 AM on August 3rd and will be open to the public. The Memorial Service will be at 1381 129th St. Dundee, IA.
In honor of Norbert’s generous spirit and lifelong service to others, the family requests that donations be made to God’s Garage, a nonprofit organization supporting mothers, widows, and wives of deployed service members with reliable transportation.
