Nora Ruth Doyle Vargo was born January 9, 1941 in Alexandria, Virginia and died Thursday, October 17, 2024 at a hospital in Michigan with her family surrounding her. She was 83 years old. The family is deeply saddened by this great loss.
Nora was preceded in death by her husband, George Lewis Vargo on June 17, 1997. She is survived by her beloved children, Darlene (Chuck), George, Tammy (Robert), Cheryl (Jeff), and Mary (Michael). Forever cherished and remembered by her nine grandchildren, Melissa (Anthony), Kyle, Zac (Estefania), Haley, Justin, Dylan, Hunter, Sydney (Lucas), and Jack. She is also cherished by her three great grandchildren, Neveah, Valentina, and Henrik. Her beautiful legacy will be cherished and remembered by all of her family. She really raised the bar of living a selfless life of serving others.
Nora was predeceased by her father, John, her mother, Anna (passed away when Nora was only 18 months old), her brothers Albert, Charlie, and Johnny and sisters, Pat, Elsie, and Irene.
She grew up in Alexandria, Virginia with just her and her dad. She was a complete daddy’s girl. She was the apple of his eye, and she had deep love for him, carrying his memory throughout her life. She loved telling stories of him to her family. She always lit up talking about him. She loved working with her dad on his pickup truck when he would cut down trees, and sell firewood in Alexandria, VA.
In the summer of 1965, she and her husband, George moved to Michigan with their three children, while pregnant with her fourth, and six years later, having her fifth and final child.
Nora’s faith was very important to her. She loved going to church and having Bible studies at her house. She loved the Lord with all of her heart. She served in her church on the cleaning team and thoroughly enjoyed it. She had a deep heart for others, and was a prayer warrior. She gave for many years to Compassion International sponsoring multiple children, St Judes, and more. Her neighbors were all blessed by her, because of her tireless service she gave them. She would clean their house, cook for them, whatever they needed. Everyone that knew her, absolutely loved her. She had very strong Christian values and was honest in all of her ways.
Some other things she loves was watching WWE, with her favorite wrestler, Roman Reigns. Being a daddy’s girl, he got her into wrestling and baseball. She absolutely loved the Detroit Tigers and would go to many games with family members, but mostly, her son, George.
She was also a great cook. Her homemade biscuits and gravy were amazing. She also made the best stuffing! We all looked forward to it! She made delicious homemade soup, too!
She took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. She truly loved babysitting them all while her children went to work. She taught them so much and enjoyed playing with them. She shared advice with them, and they knew how loved they were by her. She always made them special treats they loved, and spoiled them at Christmas and their birthdays. She even would heat up water and pour it into the small kiddie pool so they didn’t have to get in while it’s cold! They all looked forward to going to her house because of her tender heart and great care she lovingly poured into them.
In her spare time, she loved doing word search books, playing rummy, watching Judge Judy, Law & Order, Chicago Fire, and many old TV shows. She spent much of her time writing out her Bible studies and her legacy books to each of her grandkids. These have become an invaluable treasure for them.
Her legacy will carry on forever reminding us and inspiring us to be better people. She truly raised the bar living a selfless life. She chose to live a life of love and serving others. She was kind, loving, soft-spoken, funny, and the best person we could ever know. She lived a full life with the wisdom of knowing that it’s not about materials or possessions, experiences or treasures; it is about faith, hope, and love. And most of all, Jesus!
