Nina's obituary

Nina Belle (Eggers) Welch of National City, California passed away peacefully at Paradise Village on July 5th, 2023. Nina was born on February 16, 1934 in Bird City, Kansas to John and Amy (Banister) Eggers. Nina grew up 13 miles south of Bird City. She had a delightful childhood growing up on the family farm alongside her sister Neva, brother John and baby sister Emily. Nina loved going to school and learning. After graduating in 1951, she married her high school sweetheart LeRoy Welch. LeRoy would have a long and successful career with the Navy and the two made their home in San Diego, California. They were blessed with two children, twins Monte and Mitzi.

LeRoy and Nina complimented one another and served as a loving role model to many creating lasting friendships for decades. Nina deeply loved her family, and was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Nina had a way of always making a personal connection with everyone she met, and she showed tremendous love, loyalty, and generosity to those around her. She spent her whole life helping the people close to her in any way she could, she often sent cards and packages to loved ones and there are countless stories through the years of her sincere generosity.

Nina loved to find a bargain and enjoyed garage sales and shopping, she was an excellent cook and enjoyed planning events including engagement parties, birthday celebrations and baby showers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chula Vista. Nina enjoyed living in California and made many lasting friendships including one of her first neighbors, Shirley Thurman, her best friend for more than seven decades!

Nina is preceded in death by her loving husband LeRoy Welch, her son Monte Welch, her sister Neva Richmond, her brother John Eggers and two brother in laws Ken Richmond and Dwight Vallin. Nina is survived by her daughter Mitzi Welch and her granddaughter Tori Rose and husband Shane Roby, grandson RJ and granddaughter Tonja and great grandchildren Liam, Gage and Skylar all of Ohio. She is also survived by her sister Emily Vallin and sister-in-law Yvonne Eggers of Kansas as well as the extended Young Family, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout the US.

A memorial is planned for Saturday, September 30th in Bird City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you do a random act of kindness in memory of Nina.
