Nicki's obituary
Nicole Ann Cartier, 26, of South Windsor, loving daughter of Randall and Amy (Lesso) Cartier, died on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Hartford Hospital after a brief unexpected illness. Nicole was born in Hartford, CT, on October 9, 1996. She grew up in South Windsor and graduated from South Windsor High School with the Class of 2014. Along with her parents Randy and Amy of South Windsor, she leaves her sister, Lindsey Cartier of Boston, MA; her grandparents, Nancy and Jim Wilson of South Carolina, and her aunts and uncles, Joann and David Minicozzi of Branford, Diane Cartier of East Hartford, Ted and Diane Baricak of Ellington, many close cousins, and the love of her life Jonathan Kuehn of Stamford. She was predeceased by her uncle, Scott Cartier.
Nicki was truly One in a Million who touched the lives of so many people. She was kind, caring, selfless, smart, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Nicki loved cooking, sipping iced coffee, competing in fantasy football, and relaxing on weekends with friends and family. She was a creative gift-giver and always knew the right thing to say to make someone feel loved. Nicki found joy in planning road trips, traveling abroad, sitting by the beach, floating in a pool on summer days, and taking sunset drives in her car with the music blasting.
Nicki had a long medical journey, spending 225 days at CT Children's 21 years ago with a rare infection. Over the years she overcame most of her medical obstacles and challenges, determined to not let her physical challenges hold her back from anything she wanted to do. She dedicated her life to fundraising for the hospital, representing CT for the Children’s Miracle Network, starting the first high school Dance Marathon (SWFTK) fundraiser to support UConn’s HuskyTHON, and leading the HuskyTHON Dance Marathon as a college student and graduate.
Nicki graduated from UConn in 2018 with a B.S. in Healthcare Management and continued her connection with the hospital by working in the Connecticut Children's Medical Center HR Department, currently in the role of HR Projects and Communications Lead.
Nicki was a bright light providing hope and inspiration to everyone she met. Her incredible journey allowed so many people to truly believe miracles are possible. Nicki taught us to appreciate life’s little moments, to share our love, and to live each day to the fullest because life is too short to waste.
