Remembering Nickolas Darnel Thomas
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nickolas Darnel Thomas, who left us too soon on October 17, 2023, at the age of 30. Born on April 28, 1993, in Lansing, MI, to Guy Thomas and Angela Smith, Nickolas was a treasure to our family.
Nickolas, a Lansing native, made a lasting impression during his time at Holt High School, graduating in 2011. His commitment as a cornerback for the Holt Rams Varsity Football team was truly commendable.
In 2011, Nickolas took a significant step in his spiritual journey when he was baptized at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in DeWitt, MI. His faith became a beacon that guided his life and he generously shared his spiritual insights with those around him.
Nickolas furthered his education and athletic career at Saginaw Valley State University on a football scholarship. On September 20, 2013, he welcomed his son, Elías Thomas-Kemp, with Tiana Kemp. Elías became the light of Nickolas’s life and a constant source of motivation.
Despite facing numerous health challenges over the years, Nickolas demonstrated remarkable resilience. His faith and spirit remained steadfast until his last moment.
Nickolas will be remembered as a loving father, devoted son, caring brother, adored grandson, and a dear friend to many. His kindness, intellect, generosity, humor, faith in God, and deep love for his family touched everyone who knew him. His devotion to his family was unparalleled.
Nickolas now joins his grandfather, James Roseburgh, in the afterlife. He leaves behind his parents Angela Smith and Guy (Anita) Thomas; his son Elías Thomas-Kemp; Elías’s mother Tiana Kemp; siblings Nicole (Curt) Mattison, Andree Thomas, Willie James, Jaida Thomas, Israel Temple, and Aysha James; nieces and nephews August, Jazell, Ayva, Cali, and Andree II; grandparents Charles and Emma Thomas and Cynthia Smith; along with extended family members and friends.
As we mourn the loss of Nickolas Darnel Thomas, we celebrate his remarkable life. His legacy will continue to inspire us through the enduring power of faith, love, and family. May he rest in peace.
