Nelson Lee Myrthil of Freeport, NY was born on Aug 2, 1966 and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 26, 2021. On Monday, April 26, 2021, Nelson took the hand of his Savior and peacefully entered eternal rest after a long and hard-fought battle with multiple sclerosis. Nelson was a proud graduate of Maria Regina Diocesan High School in Uniondale, NY where he was a member of the band and was elected Vice President of the Class of 1984. He worked for many years as a Manager with Marriott International where he met countless lifelong friends. As a manager and colleague, Nelson was also a hardworking and reliable employee. Employees and guests built lasting relationships with him after a single encounter. Nelson also spent several years as a Uniondale Volunteer Fire Fighter. To know Nelson, is to love Nelson. He loved to show off his culinary skills and family and friends and never hesitated to showcase his one-of-a-kind mouth-watering five cheese lasagne. He loved to travel, play endless rounds of golf and in his mind, he would one day dawn the coveted PGA’s green jacket. He was a faithful fan of his New York Jets, Giants and Mets. Nelson had an infectious smile, witty sense of humor and caring demeaner that was always present. His family was extremely important to him. As the middle child, he was often considered the “tiebreaker” when trying to make a family decision. He spoiled his niece and three nephews and was considered the “Fun Uncle” because he always fought to defend them and convince his brothers to “give them a break.” Nelson had a way of making strangers feel like family and always fought for inclusiveness rather than exclusiveness. If he saw a person in need, he would rally his friends to provide a helping hand. Nelson never met a person that he didn’t befriend and later build a lasting bond.
