Neil Robert Smith, 53, passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2025, at his home in Waukegan, Illinois.

Born June 1, 1972, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Neil was the beloved son of Gregory Smith and the late Delinda Alkire, and the brother of Kristy Smith. He grew up in South Holland, Illinois, and graduated from Oak Lawn High School before building a lifelong career as a carpenter across the Chicagoland area.

Neil was a quiet soul with a warm heart, happiest in the company of his beloved cats, in his garden, enjoying a good meal, or catching live music.

Neil is survived by his father, Gregory, and his sister, Kristy. In keeping with Neil’s wishes, there will be no public services. Donations in his memory may be made to Waukegan Animals Getting Saved (WAGS), in honor of his lifelong love for cats.
