Neal's obituary

Neal Allen Hall, 75, was born on September 3, 1949 in Newark, OH to Robert E. and Louise (Jacobs) Hall.  He died on November 30, 2024 in Newark, OH at Sharonbrooke following a difficult battle with dementia.

Neal graduated from Newark High School in 1967.  While in high school, Neal excelled in shop class with Mr. Wayne Levering, where he competed and placed in several engine repair competitions.

One of Neal’s first jobs was working at SOHIO for Wayne Anderson and Dick Ellis.  When Neal left SOHIO he went to work driving truck for Fred Bert and Dick Ankrum at A & B Cartige Company alongside his father-in-law, Stan (Helen Helmick Ford) Colbet and former brother-in-law, Ronnie Long.   After a number of years driving truck and a minor accident, Neal decided to quit.  At this time, Dick Ellis from SOHIO was now working for the Licking County Highway Department and told Neal of a mechanic position available there.  Neal got the job and stayed with the Licking County Highway Department until his retirement.

On November 4, 1967, Neal married the love of his life, Linda I. Ford.  Together they raised a daughter, Janet L. (Michael) Smith and also had a son, Michael Allen Hall, who died at 13 months of age due to complications following open heart surgery.  Linda died in 1999.

On February 14, 2003, Neal married Chrystal (Rupp) Gregg.  Through his marriage to Chris, he gained a bonus daughter, Lisa (Gregg) Morse.

Neal enjoyed time with family, bowling, reading, and woodworking. There was nothing he couldn’t fix—especially after yelling at it or giving it a swift kick!

Neal is survived by his wife, Chris; his daughter Janet and her husband, Mike Smith of  Weatherford, OK; his bonus daughter, Lisa and her husband Nick Morse of Pataskala; and his brother, Dale Hall and his wife, Lynn (Rutledge).  He is also survived by 5 grandchildren:  Shawn (Jessie Flaming) Smith, Jeffery Smith, and Delaney (Austyn Davison) Smith, all of Weatherford, OK; and Nicholas Morse and Payton Morse of Pataskala, OH.  Four great grandchildren survive:  Aiden George, Addison Steffes, Zachary Smith, and Cooper Smith. Three siblings-in-law survive, Jackie Long-Schweitzer of Newark, OH; Clif (Toni) Ford of Gallipolis, OH; and Alicia (Dave) Ludinich of Frazeysburg, OH.  Nieces and nephews also survive:  Morgan (Jonas Vestre) Ford, Of Groveport, OH, Brad (Amanda Jones) Schweitzer, and  Kara (Jack) Post of Newark, OH; Lorraine (Eric) Smith of Haverhill, MA; and Kel (Hannah Olivia) Hall of Alexandria, VA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; son, Michael; parents, Robert and Louise Hall; brother, Karl Hall; parents-in-law, Clifton Ford, and Stan and Helen Colbert; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and siblings-in-law.
