NATHANIEL's obituary
He was a writer and digital artist and had been studying game design and working on his second novel. His intent was to continue his studies in New York and become a writer as a career.
He was born in New York City and through the arts had dozens of 'aunts' and 'uncles' teaching him that color, race, gender, disability and age were not important and he carried this inclusive message into his life.
He loved to travel and had traveled all over the world with his family, having a special love for Japan. He had studied Japanese in school and on his own and spoke, read and wrote it (in all three Japanese alphabets) fluently.
Although a city boy, he loved nature, especially beaches and forests. He had a great love of animals and had volunteered at shelters in Hawaii and had actively rescued his companion, Halloween Bat, during a dark and windy Halloween night in Florida. He had not only traveled a great deal but had lived (and been tattooed) in many states. Aside from NYC he lived in Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Virginia and Florida. He was a prolific poet, writing hundreds of poems that his family will now work on preparing for publication along with his novels and short stories. They are also compiling a collection of his digital and hand drawn art.
One of the great joys of his life was his friendships, those friends he loved helped him to flesh out ideas for art, gave him creative feedback and steadied him when things were difficult. Causes close to his heart are LGBTQIA awareness and support groups, Autism Spectrum support groups and animal rescue groups. If Nate could leave a message for everyone, he would ask us all to be kind to one another.
