Nasario's obituary

Nasario Jimenez Olvera of El Paso, TX, passed away on December 23, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Linda Olvera, his daughter Belinda Olvera-Jovanovich, and his two sons, Steve Olvera and Joseph Olvera. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nasario was a cherished uncle, brother, and friend to many. A proud Texan, he spent his childhood in downtown El Paso, with his father, Dario Olvera, his mother, Francisca Olvera, and seven siblings.

In his youth, Nasario worked as a shoe shiner, contributing to his family's finances. He attended Jefferson High School in El Paso, where he excelled in basketball. He met his future wife in 1961, and they quickly fell in love. Old photos capture his cool, classic car and leather jacket, embodying the greaser style of the 1950s.

Nasario and his wife married in 1962 and purchased a home in El Paso's Lower Valley area. Their first child, Joseph Olvera, was born in 1965, followed by their second son, Steve Olvera, in 1968, and their daughter in 1974.

Throughout his life, Nasario was an avid artist. He began painting in high school and took art classes at the community college. He joined the El Paso Art Association and displayed his work in various galleries. In addition to his love for art, he was a sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying football and golf. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and always cheered for teams with Chicano players. His Mexican American heritage held a special place in his heart.

Nasario was also passionate about fishing, a hobby he enjoyed with his family and friends. He frequented Ascarate Park, where he made lasting friendships. In his retirement years, he dedicated himself to maintaining his home, yard, and vehicles.

He attended church regularly, demonstrating his commitment to his wife, though he would playfully remind everyone that he was a Catholic. Nasario was known for his strong will, stubbornness, and unwavering loyalty to his family.

In 2017, his health began to decline, and over the years, it continued to deteriorate until his passing in the comfort of his home.
