Naomi's obituary
Rest In Peace Naomi Ruth Eisenberg, the charismatic and stylish singer and musician best known for her outstanding work with the classic lineup of Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks.
Our beloved and talented friend died peacefully on 3/17/2026 from complications of alzheimers. The most memorable female fiddle player during the Summer of Love in San Francisco, Naomi first spent a few years and many sessions in Texas playing at Austin City Limits before she became a force on the West Coast.
Best know as one of the original Lickettes where her backup vocals along with Maryann Price's defined the Dan Hicks sound. The band traveled extensively and appeared on The Tonite Show, The Dick Cavett Show, The Flip Wilson Show and Austin City Limits. Naomi plays fiddle in later years of the band. Naomi had a stellar solo career during the punk era as Naomi Vice and was a staple at The Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco. She also played guitar, mandolin and ukulele and collaborated with a myriad of musicians. Other bands include: Dancing, Food & Entertainment, Alienation, The Dada's, and a Velvet Underground cover band called Lu Read and Naomi Vice, complete with a Nico impersonator.
The genius of Naomi was that she could pick up her fiddle to sit in and play absolutely any genre of music with no rehearsal and be spot on amazing. She was a truly gifted, beautiful, humble, funny, kind, salt-of-the-earth woman who prided herself as a full time musician, and lived her life happily on her own terms, often bragging that she was educated in the "university of the streets."
Born in Brooklyn, NY. Naomi resided in SF during the 60s through the 90's, then moved to Chico to be closer to many of her musician friends who retired there. She spent the past few years in an assisted living facility before moving to SoCal in 2025 where she passed in Santa Ana at VITAS Hospice House.
She is predeceased by her parents Morris and Sophie and her brother Lawrence, survived by her brother Paul and her sister, Carol Eisenberg Linkerman, her sister-in-laws: Hoon Eng Koo and Gretchen Eisenberg; nieces and nephews Ann, Jonathan and Dave, her dear friend Patricia Russell of West Hollywood as well as her cat, Lily.
