Nancy "Gma" Johnson (1929-2023)

Nancy "Gma" Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on March 20, 2023, at the age of 94. Born January 12, 1929, in Daytona Beach, Florida, Nancy will be remembered for her incredible work ethic, love of life, and her fierce dedication to her family and friends.

Nancy had an illustrious career spanning several professions. She began her working life as a dedicated art teacher, inspiring young minds with her passion for creativity in Brooklyn in the 1950’s.  Later, Nancy transitioned to the field of occupational therapy, where she learned to help individuals overcome the challenges of daily life. Nancy's love for helping others also led her to work as a secretary, librarian, and psych tech, where she provided support and care to all those she encountered.

Beyond her work, Nancy enjoyed a wide range of hobbies that showcased her intellect, curiosity, and adventurous spirit. An avid reader, she would often be found with her nose in a book, always eager to learn something new. Her love for mental stimulation extended to crosswords and puzzles, which she tackled with enthusiasm and tenacity. Nancy also loved traveling, exploring far-flung corners of the world with an unquenchable wanderlust. An accomplished photographer, she captured the essence of her journeys, preserving memories that she cherished throughout her life. Her free spirit led her to riding motorcycles, embracing the thrill of the open road and the camaraderie she found within the biking community.

Nancy's personality could best be described as tough, smart, inquisitive, vivacious, animal lover and above all, committed to her family. Her kindness and empathy touched the lives of many. Nancy, also fondly known as Gma, will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. However, her indomitable spirit and the impact she made in the lives of so many will live on. As we say our final farewells, we celebrate a life well-lived and well-loved, and we endeavor to honor Nancy's memory by carrying on her legacy of love, family, and unbounded curiosity.
