Nancy's obituary

The family of Nancy Louise Thurin (née Eisleben) is heart-broken to announce her gentle return to Christ’s loving arms, in the early afternoon of Tuesday, September 24th. A day, now, forever marked on our hearts.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was born to Charles and Jean Eisleben on March 4, 1954. She grew up in Downey, CA with her siblings Rick and Barbi.

She attended Stanford University, eventually achieving a master’s degree in Spanish, intending to become an educator. She spent a few years in the classroom before marrying Steve Thurin in 1979. The first of her three beautiful daughters was born in 1983, at which point, Nancy left teaching to dedicate her life to being a mother.

Nancy raised her daughters in the Christian faith in Northern California and in 1995 the family moved to Park City, UT. In Park City she volunteered as a church youth group leader and touched the hearts of many young people. After her daughters were out of high school and on their own, Nancy relocated again. This time to the Seattle, WA area. Her life began to fill up with her adoring grandchildren, who loved to visit during the holidays.

Nancy later left Washington, this time settling in West Linn, OR. It was there in West Linn that she peacefully breathed her last, watched over by her daughters and attended to by Christ.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Jenny, Alli, and Stevie. Now five grandchildren, Elliana, Will, Jensen, Ashlynn, and little Tydirian (born only 5 days after Nancy’s passing.) She is also survived by her sister’s family Barbi and David Krome and children/grandchildren, as well as her brother’s family Rick and Beth Eisleben and their son and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Jean. She also has a couple of sons hanging around, lucky enough to marry a couple of daughters, Adam Kohler and Jason Reeves.

We will miss Nancy’s sense of adventure and her indomitable fighting spirit. Nancy was a multi-round cancer survivor. Giving up was never an option for her, and her last years were spent ticking off items from her bucket list. She went to New York during Christmas, a solo trip to Italy, and with family to Hawaii. She spent her 70th birthday in Mexico with all her daughters and grandchildren. She went swimming with dolphins in Orlando; skydiving, paragliding, ziplining, dune-buggies and so many more joyous activities: she got to do everything she wanted! She was happiest spending time with her grandchildren, and she was their hero.

Share in our grief, but take solace and celebrate Nancy. We are inspired by her example of love, forgiveness, and her devotion to our lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

Nancy LOVED her birthdays, so we intend to have a memorial service to spread Nancy’s ashes on March 4th, 2025, in West Linn, OR. We will share more details for those who want to join as we near that date.

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." -Psalm 73:26

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Roman 8:38-39
