Nancy's obituary
Nancy Leona Thorp, 74, of Lake Tapps, WA, passed away on July 11, 2021 at her second home in Palm Desert, CA after a fierce battle with cancer. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile that brightened the room until the very end. She died peacefully surrounded by love.
Nancy was born on July 21, 1946 to Russell and June Thorp in Enumclaw, WA. She was the 4th of 6 children and the only girl. After graduating from Sumner High School, she went to Everett Community College and met Dan Nichols whom she married in April of 1966. They had two daughters, Janell and Desera (Desi). Nancy was a dedicated and loving mother. The family lived in WA, OR, CA, and MN before returning to WA. They spent many days at the beach, hiking, camping, boating, sledding, and ice skating. The family settled in Woodinville where Nancy began her career at Xerox and in the process made many lifelong friends. Once her girls were grown, Nancy purchased her home on Lake Tapps, WA and joined the Creator Lutheran Church community. During the pandemic, she continued to meet remotely with her book club, bible group, and participated in church services from her home in California.
Nanc’s love of life was contagious. She always showed up and was making friends while traveling, skiing, sailing, rafting the Colorado and Salmon Rivers, golfing, dancing the two-step, playing pickle ball, serving drinks at the clubhouse or espresso on her raft. She loved vacationing in Puerto Vallarta with her family and friends. She especially loved to entertain at the lake during the summer months eating great food, drinking wine, swimming, boating, hot tubbing, and playing cards. She was a master gardener and an excellent cook. She hosted many gatherings and events at her home and even took guests on dinner cruises on her raft. The sound of joy and laughter was always abundant from family, friends and her grandkids.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Russell and June Thorp, and brothers Darrel, David, and James. Nancy is survived by her husband, Ron Wingerson, her Aunt, Mae Beebe, brothers Gene Thorpe and Larry Thorp, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her two daughters Janell Kiehl (Johnny) and Desera Luxmore (Bryan), two stepsons Brent Wingerson, Todd Wingerson, their children, her grandchildren Brandi Kiehl (Colby), Jessica Kiehl-Phillips (Rudy), Alicia Kiehl, Tabatha Kiehl, Jacob Rodgers, Jordan Luxmore, and one great-grandchild Penny Louise Phillips.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Monroe on July 9, 2022. Contributions can be made to Creator Lutheran Church of Bonney Lake in memory of Nancy Thorp.
