Nancy's obituary
Nancy Jean Schaper of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 84, after battling dementia for several years. She was born to Melvin and Marcella Seago in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 30, 1941.
She married the love of her life, Walter Schaper Sr., on December 31, 1955. They grew their family with five children. She remained supportive as Walter moved up in his career at American Motors Corporation. They lived in St. Louis and Cincinnati before ultimately settling in the metro Atlanta area.
A devout Catholic, she attended and volunteered at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Church in Lawrenceville.
Nancy had an incredibly big heart and prioritized her family. After raising five children, she devoted her energy and love to nurturing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed a family get-together around the holidays, birthday party, graduation, or wedding. And she always said yes to hosting at her house.
Nancy enjoyed the outdoors with her husband and children, where she could get away from the hustle of the city. She liked to camp and fish, especially with family around. She enjoyed being part of a bowling league and participating in the Senior Olympic Games at the local senior center in Lawrenceville.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Schaper Sr., her sons Michael Schaper and Jerry Schaper, her grandson Nicholas Schaper, and her great-granddaughter Chloe Hester. She is survived by her brother Ronald Seago (Barbara) of Arizona, as well as two daughters (their spouses), son, and daughter in law all of the Atlanta area: Carol Unkles (Stewart), Kathleen Clavijo (Max), Walter Schaper Jr., and Christine Schaper. Her memory is also held by thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral mass will take place on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11AM at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Church. Luncheon at the church immediately following mass. Interment to follow lunch, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Crowell Brothers Cemetery in Peachtree Corners.
