Nancy's obituary
Nancy Aileen Reid was born to Lloyd and Phyllis Reid on May 20th, 1955. She was the youngest of the three Reid sisters. She grew up in Downers Grove, IL until moving to California for her high school years. She transferred from San Diego State University to Northern Illinois University where she completed her degree in Home Economics and Education. Not only was she skilled in sewing and textiles but she also earned a certificate in auto shop. She was married in 1977, settled in Glen Ellyn and had one daughter, Julia and two sons, Geoffrey and Brendan. She died on November 15th 2022 after a short illness at age 67.
Being the ultimate organizer, she provided her talents to the Lincoln Elementary School PTA, bookkeeping for multiple businesses including the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn, Toms Price Furniture and most recently Sims Lifecycle Services.
She was initiated into the KY Chapter of P.E.O. in 1994. While Nancy appreciated the social and philanthropic nature of the group, these women provided an extraordinary amount of support through her divorce in 2003 and her battle with lung cancer in 2018. Daughter Julia (also initiated in 2004) knew her mom was in good hands with her P.E.O. sisters during these life challenges and is so grateful for this group.
Nancy loved cats; her beautiful companion of over 15 years was a show cat drop out named Zack. She was a voracious reader and kept lists of “books to read” all over the house. In her younger years she enjoyed camping and adventures in travel brought her as far as Australia. Her passport was expired for 20 years but she had just applied to renew in anticipation of a girls spa trip next spring.
In her P.E.O. yearbook, Nancy was perfectly described as a gentle spirit with a quiet dignity that reflected her life motto to “live honorably.”
Nancy will be missed dearly by daughter Julia (Dan) Craig, Geoffrey Hanson, Brendan Hanson, sisters Janet Reid and Mary Schlosser, grandchildren Henry, James and Madelyn.
