Nancy's obituary
A fierce advocate of animal rights, she devoted herself to the cause. She was especially fond of dogs and provided a loving home to many. Among her favorites were Jesse, Will, Dougal and Skippy.
Nancy was born in Lexington, Kentucky to Dr. William Hollis Pennington and Alice Young Pennington, attended St. Catherine's School in VA, Pine Manor College in
MA, and she graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in English literature.
After university, she worked in Boston, MA, then moved to Seattle, WA with her
husband Andrea Freccia, with whom she had two sons, Timoteo Andrea Freccia and Sebastiano Pennington Freccia.
She spent many years advocating for a variety of animal rights causes, including elephants and chimpanzees, taking up legislative work and statewide initiatives. She worked with the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, and helped to create anti-trapping legislation. She worked with PETA and HSUS.
She was a committed vegan for a number of decades and until her death.
She remained in Seattle until 2014, when she moved to Hudson, NY to be near her son Tim.
In 2019, she moved to an independent senior community at Camphill Ghent, in Chatham, NY where she enjoyed a beautiful view of the bucolic Hudson Valley, gardening and socializing with her peers.
As she wished, her remains were cremated, and a private ceremony to remember her will take place at a future date.
Nancy is survived by her sons, and three grandchildren, Tuuli Jane, Suvi Stefanie Louise, and Conrad Leonardo.
As per her wishes, please remember her through contributions to animal welfare causes.
