Nancy's obituary

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Nancy Lee Moreno following a seizure on February 15, 2024.

Nancy was a woman of remarkable determination, unwavering ambition, and fierce independence. Behind her enigmatic exterior lay a heart overflowing with love and sensitivity. She possessed a sharp, cutting wit and a candid demeanor, always accompanied by a compassionate and thoughtful spirit. Nancy was a devoted mother, cherishing her son Rex above all else, and a dedicated colleague whose journey from a rebellious youth to a respected programmer exemplified her relentless drive for success.

Some will remember her as a mystical, fishnet-wearing, big-haired hairband goddess that walked the “runway” of concert halls in which she immersed herself, forging unforgettable memories and friendships amidst legendary musicians. She made herself living art.

Some will remember her as the suburban mom, who made a beautiful home, full of memories, animals, laughter and love. The one to share a photo of a dog running down a parade, thinking it was all for him on Facebook, hoping it would make your day as much as it did hers.

Others will remember her as the dedicated professional who could focus on any problem and co-develop solutions with empathy and grace. She relished the role of office “mom” who masterfully kept her brood focused and productive.

But mostly she will be remembered for her devotion to those she loved, as her friendships stood the test of time. She cherished and held them like a jewel. To know Nancy was to love Nancy and be loved.

Nancy was born on Jan 17, 1969 in Washington DC to Thi Hang and Edward Moreno, attended Fairfax High School, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from George Mason University. She fulfilled her dream of joining the World Bank, and went on to establish herself as a highly regarded programmer, known for her tireless dedication to empowering others and her relentless pursuit of excellence. She excelled at helping others evolve to their ideal; supporting their explorations, goals, and potential.

Nancy is survived by her beloved son Rex Newhart, her sisters Gisele Enders, Ginette Rooz, Gabrielle Rooz, Marie-Claire Vedrenne-Lacombe, and Caroline Rosenbaum, her brothers George Rooz and Edward Moreno, and a multitude of cherished friends and colleagues. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, yet her legacy of strength, wry laughter, and resilience will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Sunday, March 3rd from 6-8pm at the Reston Lake House, 11450 Baron Cameron Ave, Reston, VA. As Nancy was a friend to many senior animals, her family requests memorial donations to Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in lieu of flowers.

Though Nancy has departed this world far too soon, her spirit will live on in the echoes of rock concerts, the warmth of cherished memories, and the lives she touched. May she find eternal peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
