She liked to laugh - it was a wonderful laugh. And it was contagious; once at Seattle’s Empty Space Theatre, in the lobby after the play, we were laughing about something and some of the cast members exclaimed, “You are the Lady With The Laugh! We love to hear you in the audience! You get everybody going.”
Walking in the Seattle Center House, I mentioned to Nancy that I missed the days when my brothers and I would go out camping or shooting and she made the off-hand suggestion , "Why don't you join the National Guard?". So, I did. And made a career of it; recruiting for twenty years and retiring!
Way back in the mid-70s, when THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY was still less than 10 years old, Nancy ran it at her Cinema. After the show a few of us were talking about how unknown and underrated Sergio Leone was. I said "Somebody ought to write a book about him." Nancy said something like, "Well, why don't you?" I'll always be grateful to her for that moment of utter confidence in me that I didn't yet have in myself. Thanks, Nancy, for that, and all the great films and conversations.Bob Cumbow
