Nancy's obituary
Nancy was born on February 22, 1941, in Elliston, KY and was named Nancy Marie Deen by her parents, Harry Lee and Joan Deen. Soon thereafter, Nancy's mother divorced Harry in 1942 and moved to San Francisco, accompanied by Nancy and her older brother, Bill. In 1944, Nancy's mother married Eldon Petersen, an army sergeant, who moved the family to the Presidio military facility in San Francisco. Nancy's younger brother, Eldon Junior, was born shortly thereafter, and the family continued to reside at the Presidio during the years Nancy attended grade school and high school. While most young girls in high school were preoccupied with makeup and related matters, Nancy was focused on developing her marksmen skills where she (and brother Bill) won several competitive rifle awards.
In 1961, Nancy married David P. Flint, age 22, and they moved to Sacramento to begin employment and start a family. Nancy took a job with the local telephone company prior to the arrival of their first son, Jeffrey, born Feb. 2, 1963, followed by their second son, Jon, born Nov. 7, 1964. The couple soon divorced, and Nancy accepted the responsibility of raising two young boys as a working mother. But unfortunately, Jon died in Sept. 1975 in a tragic fire while on a camping trip with his father.
Nancy charmed her way into a local developer's office by exaggerating her accounting skills. This led to her exposure to real estate management challengers—and her rewarding career in commercial real estate. Nancy worked for several commercial real estate developers in Sacramento and learned the commercial leasing/management business via "the school of hard knocks"—since she had no formal education or training in the industry, but soon became quite adept at negotiating leases and gaining the respect of her tenants. It was during this time she first met her future husband, Thomas Davis, when he was auditing the "figures" at her employer's office—on behalf of their CPA firm. They were subsequently married; in 1976.
Her leasing/management skills soon led her to an appointment as manager of a prestigious high-rise office building on Capital Mall in 1990. Reporting to an owner located in the Bay area, she was given a lot of latitude in the decision-making process and carrying out her management responsibilities. Nancy loved her job and was most proud of her accomplishments included maintaining a high occupancy percentage with content business tenants during her 18 years of employment until her retirement in 2008. She continued to provide consulting services to her operation for several years thereafter to assist the management transition.
In 2010, she and her husband moved to Indian Wells, near Palm Springs, in order to be close to her son, Jeff, who was in the process of starting a new business. They bought a home in Desert Horizons Country Club, a beautiful community that is ideally located for shopping, and related activities in the Coachella Valley.
During their working years, Nancy & Tom were fairly active travelers, but after retirement they lost their desire for travel partially due to the fact they now "lived in paradise", not to mention the recent hassles of flying. But Nancy missed her girl friends in Sacramento who enjoyed their weekend getaways together when the husbands were gone on golf trips. However, Nancy found fulfillment again once she became active in the Country Club's Womens Group—and made many new friends.
During their long marriage, Nancy & Tom loved the many felines and the companionship they provided. Most recently, Nancy found great happiness in babysitting the neighbor's lovely little havanese dog who adored Nancy.
She loved to decorate her home for all the holidays and hold dinner parties with family and friends at home, work/play in the yard arranging the décor. Nancy was a happy, cheerful soul, kind gracious, caring with a positive and compassionate attitude. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Jeff; and her husband, Tom.
