Happy Birthday, Nancy. You gave me hope that a life in the arts was possible. Thanks for inviting me into parts of your world and for coming out and seeing my work when I invited you!
Happy heavenly birthday Nancy, think of you often!

I think about Nancy all the time but it's hard not to think about her during the late spring. She did so much at Wooddale Junior High to make graduation special. From the 8th grade murals to an abundant bouquet of peonies from her yard.  I fell in love, and she always tried to bring me some for my birthday. I now have one plant of my own.  The Nancy plant.

I also miss our book club at Nancy's house. She was an abundant person. Always an abundance of generosity.

A friend of friends! There are a handful of people that put a mark on your heart and fill you like no other. This was Nancy. I miss her. The sculpture she gifted me sits at the end of our Wisconsin drive in a bed of beautiful lavender. I "just" happened to place it there on a stump my husband had cut on June 24th...and then I heard the news. Many have commented on it since and I have been able to share about the amazing lady behind it. Prayers are lifted up often for your family and a bed waiting for you guys at our cabin if you are ever up our way. Much love...
I know Dave from high school. Nancy sounds like a wonderful person. Glad they had a good life together. Sorry about your loss.
What a lovely tribute to a woman who was beautiful - inside and out. I have fond memories of Nancy from when she taught my sons at Wood Dale Jr. High.
Nancy will always be a treasured friend and coworker while her time on this earth was cut short I feel truly blessed for having shared her time enjoying her marvelous energy, kindness, dances, her laughter, boas, hats, fabulous food and beverages and her abundant love she exuded to those she cherished. To her beloved family I wrap my arms around you with a big hug. Nancy you shall be forever missed but you enjoy your choreography of your forever after my dear friend

  • I met Nancy in 1965 while we attended an existential novel class at George Williams College In Chicago. At the time she had platinum blood hair and wore miniskirts. Not only was she beautiful but she understood Camus’s “The Stranger” better than anyone in class. The professor, Mr. Olson, was also impressed with her comprehension and he asked her to lead the class discussion. I was “blown away” with her ability to articulate the existential themes Camus was writing about. I also realized I really didn’t understand the novel. That was the first day I met Nancy Worthmann (September 1965). We ended up in several classes together that fall and winter. She was shy but everyone thought she was stuck up. She always got an “A” in the courses we took together. She was a good student and an excellent test taker. (More later)

There is no one in this world like your mother. She was a special person, and she will always be with you. Be kind and gentle with yourself. Take your time and know that you have our full support. May she know everlasting peace.

The Mangibuyat Family 🙏🏼❤️

Sending my sincere sympathy on the loss of your beloved mother.❤️❤️❤️
I had the honor of working with Nancy for 13 years at Wood Dale Junior High. She and her dedicated and loving colleagues brought me up in my younger years. Having just finished my 28th year at the junior high she is a part of my fabric. We were birthday buddies both sharing April 8 as our entrance to this earth. We shared love laughter stories of our children, and late nights working on musical sets with Tom Mary and Ted! Her life was a gift to this world and all who know her. I will miss her love laughter and companionship. My prayers and thoughts are with Dave her girls her grandchildren and all who knew and loved her. The world is less because she is gone but her memory and spirit live on in all who knew and loved her. God Bless you my friend. Until we meet again, may your spirit and love of life inspire all those who crossed your path.

Your Nawakwa family is heartbroken with this news. We will always love Nancy and celebrate her - such a beautiful and inspiring woman and friend.💞 Dave, Jess, Sasha - sending love and sympathy - Rose Ann

To all of you who were lucky enough to know and be loved by this incredible and extraordinary woman, I am deeply sorry for your heartbreaking loss, especially Dave, the love of her life/her lifeline/her always supportive lifetime partner,  Jess, Sasha, (Chrissy) she could never say enough how proud she was of each of you and how much she admired and loved you, Anne her loving sister (she treasured your visits) and who is more like Nancy than she even knows and realizes) and her beloved grandchildren, Tilly, Theo and Jude, she thoroughly enjoyed, adored and loved each of you so deeply.

Nancy was one of the most artistically creative and expressive people I have ever known. Her high spirited personality powerfully drew so many into her enchanting world.

She personally introduced me to and helped to open my eyes to so many enriching,  fun filled activities and a variety of cultures.

Her love and appreciation for history/art/ theatre/ music/dance/cooking/baking  was contagious.

My very first glimpse of Nancy was through her artwork (her incredible series “The Emergence of a Woman”  (If you have not yet had the pleasure of viewing her art work, the effort to do so I promise is so worthwhile).

After seeing her original work and reading her piece describing the series I just knew I had to meet this talented and insightful woman.

We became fast friends (our knicknames for each other are pot and kettle (as in the Pot calling the kettle black) (she my sweet Pot and I her  faithful kettle)

She brought me to my first opera. I’ll never forget that for my fortieth bday she and Dave took me to see “Wicked”.

She continually shared so many of her favorite reads and films with me which soon became my own.

She took me along on so many of her fascinating world and nearby travels, through countless descriptive emails and photos.

She was a perfectionist (have you ever seen such lovely handwriting) in so many ways. A two edged sword at times, since she was so hard on herself, yet so forgiving and tolerant of others.

Her love and laughter was plentiful,  boundless and infectious. She embraced life and her loved ones completely and unapologetically.

She made an enriching difference and a positive impact on so many of our lives, whether it was through her unique teaching style, her remembering special occasions with her countless personal cards/letters/notes,  her art, her fun themed party’s, her inclusiveness of all, her delightful, tasty and carefully thought out lavished meals/her frequently shared knowledge (and personal experience)  in history, politics, nature, gardening, traveling.

A genuine, kind, fun loving, thoughtful, loyal, generous and energetic friend, with a flair for drama, humour and always her own unique and eye-catching style and a laugh that could not be mistaken.  She cared deeply and gave so much of herself to everyone in her fold as well as to numerous charities.

An ageless beauty inside and out. Fearless in so many ways (water skiing/roller blading/Belly dancing (some of these very physically challenging activities all the way through and into her 60’s and even 70’s) .

A warrior, a legend in her own time and way.

The most gracious hostess, making all her guests feel warm and welcome, whether at her home in WoodDale or her lake house (even my 100lb fur baby Starsky a Shepard/Husky mix who could easily shed 10lbs of hair a day ).

A Gardener of beautiful souls, she was the epitome of “It’s a Wonderful Life” her influence and spirit will live on through her family, friends and students.

My dearest sweet Pot, thank you for the countless laughs, the unforgettable and endless memories you helped to create, for the times you patiently and empathically listened to my ranting and raving, for sharing your quick wit, wisdom, southern charm and etiquette.  For embracing and loving me even when I was at my worst.

May your beautiful soul finally find the rest and peace, you so richly have earned and deserve, although at the cost of our own heartbreak.

Your faithful loving and heartbroken  Kettle, Eileen xo
