Nancy and David's obituary

David and Nancy Templeton

After 49 years of marriage, David Hennessee Templeton, 74, and Nancy Kay Templeton , 68, of San Antonio, TX passed away one week apart on Sunday, December 1 and Sunday, December 8, 2025, a testament to their abiding love and unending connection.

Nancy Templeton was born on September 14, 1956 to Ruby “Jean” Jeanette (Wall) Sales and Joe Howard Sales in San Antonio, TX. She graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1974 and was united in marriage to David on April 4, 1975. In addition to caring for her home and family, Nancy worked at times as a server, or as she would very proudly make the distinction, a waitress. She also was active as a Mary Kay consultant for a time, something she enjoyed doing. She was an active room mother throughout her daughter’s school years, happily assisting with school activities and class parties.

David Templeton was born on February 6, 1950 and was adopted as an infant by his parents Daphin “Dattie” (Wright) Templeton and Hennessee Woodrow Templeton in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1968. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Nancy on April 4, 1975. David was employed by Southwestern Bell (later AT&T) for around 30 years before retiring and later working as a security guard. He was also a soccer and basketball coach for his daughter’s elementary teams. David and Nancy would frequently volunteer as driver and chaperone for school field trips as well, with their car being the fun car everyone wanted to ride in.

But this list of accomplishments pales in comparison to their greatest accomplishment of all - being beacons of love to all who knew them. To know Nancy and David was to know without doubt that true love exists. It was also to witness the love they gave freely those around them. Nancy and David loved each other, loved their daughter, loved their families and friends, and loved life. Though they had only one child, dozens of people called them Mom and Dad all through their years, as they opened their hearts and arms to everyone who came to them. It gave them great pride to have so many “adopted kids.”

Nancy and David were inseparable and lived a life full of love and laughter. They loved to travel. They loved to laugh and make others laugh. They loved a spontaneous adventure. They loved a good song, a good meal, a good time surrounded by friends and loved ones. They had open hearts, open minds, and an inspiring zest for life.

Nancy and David leave behind a legacy of love that lives on now in the hearts of their daughter, Samantha Templeton; Nancy’s brother Larry Sales and his wife, Judy; Nancy’s sister Linda Crigger; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many “adopted kids.”

Nancy and David were preceded in death by their parents; Nancy’s siblings Barbara Fry, Randy Sales and Beverly Hunt; as well as David’s beloved cousin Jo Beth Mangum-Amen.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 3, 2025 at Funeral Caring at 2621 Mossrock followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15pm.
