Nancy's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Ahmad on June 14, 2024. Born on November 18, 1940, Nancy's life was a beacon of love, empathy, and fun. Her legacy of kindness and healing will be remembered by all who had the privilege of experiencing her warmth and unconditional kindness.
Nancy is survived by her loving family: her daughter Aisha Hartley, son Daoud Ahmad and daughter-in-law Sharon Ahmad. She was a doting grandmother to grandchildren Asheia Haynes, Cassie Smith, Aisha Owens (grandson-in-law Jhamed Owens)Kamal Baker, Khalil Ahmad, great grandmother to Zaivia Haynes and Priyah Owens. Her nieces, nephews and extended family will dearly miss her.
She was predeceased by her parents, John Watson and Helen Glenn and by her sisters Cecil Watson, Betty Watson, Caroline Baldwin, Joy Beckwith and her former husband, friend and father of her children, Abdul Ahmad.
After graduating with a Masters in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982, Nancy dedicated her life to helping others as a founding member at the Duluth Coalition for Battered Women. She particularly took pride in her work with nutrition counseling and social work for children and families in crisis.
Nancy was a lover of the simple joys of life. She loved ice cream and green drinks. She enjoyed a good living room dance party. She was fond of the spiritual teachings of "The Prophet," her favorite book. Santana and Jim Croce were her favorite musicians and she was a regular viewer of the TV show, Columbo which was especially fun with Peter Krause, who remained her beloved and loyal friend till the very end.
Solitaire and dominoes were her games of choice and she cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
Known for her healthy lifestyle, her favorite way to exercise was swimming. She frequented a local co-op known as The Wedge. Her passion for Women and Child Protection reflected in her career. The color blue was her favorite. Nancy's guiding principle was simple: eat healthily, love everyone, humor is the best medicine.
The loss of Nancy is profound, however, the memories she created, will continue in the lives she touched. Her life, full of empathy, kindness and nutrition tips will forever be celebrated. Our hearts ache with her loss, but are full of gratitude for the love and lessons she shared.
