Myrtle's obituary

Myrtle Lee Jefferson was born March 1, 1937, to Dolphus and Mattie Jefferson in York, Alabama. At 9 months, her mother passed away and she and her father moved to Hub Mississippi where she lived until the age of 14. At 14 she moved to Oakland California to live with her aunt. While living in Oakland, she attended Herbert T Hoover Jr High and graduated from Oakland technical High. In 1957, she met her husband Mack Lester Pruitt, who she remained married to, until his death in 1994. Three children came out of their marriage together Harold, Vallarie, and Lester Glen Pruitt.

At an early age Myrtle had a deep love for God and after studying the bible with Maxine Murray, she was baptized as one of Jehovah Witnesses in 1971. Myrtle enjoyed preaching about god’s word and promises, and always made an effort to take part in the ministry, right down to the end of her life. Her love for the truth about God, moved her daughter, son in law and two of her grandchildren to also dedicate their life as Jehovah Witnesses. She loved attending the Kingdom Hall and when her health prevented her from going in person, you could find her enjoying the meetings on zoom. Myrtle was known for her heartfelt comments that she shared during the meetings. Myrtle was blessed to attend Bethel and the Hawaii International Assembly with her daughter Vallarie.

Myrtle also loved to travel, especially cruises. She cruised all over the Caribbean, Mexico, and her last cruise in 2006, to Alaska. Anytime you talked about traveling, her eyes would light up with joy and loved to tell her stories of her own travels. Myrtle was also known for her hats. You could always catch her in one, perfectly matching her outfit for the day. Myrtle enjoyed attending musicals, plays, concerts, movies, and the once Ebony Fashion show with a host of family and friends.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband Mack L Pruitt and her eldest son, Harold Maurice Pruitt. She leaves behind her only daughter, Vallarie Lee Morris, (husband Melvin Morris) and her youngest son, Lester Glenn Pruitt. Granddaughters Latoya Morris, Krystal Wilson (husband Landry Wilson), Aileen Pruitt and Grandson, William Pruitt. Her Great-Grandchildren, Jamirr Harris, Kylie Moore, Khalel Mack, Nyla, and William Jr. along with a host of cousins, and other family members in California, St Louis, and Mississippi.
