Myrtle Lee Jefferson was born March 1, 1937, to Dolphus and Mattie Jefferson in York, Alabama. At 9 months, her mother passed away and she and her father moved to Hub Mississippi where she lived until the age of 14. At 14 she moved to Oakland California to live with her aunt. While living in Oakland, she attended Herbert T Hoover Jr High and graduated from Oakland technical High. In 1957, she met her husband …
