Now back in the States, every Easter we gather at my sister’s place in Charleston for a big egg hunt. This is classic Myrabelle ... sunny yard, floral dress flying and her playful call of “Garlie!” (her nickname for big brother Garlen) as she races from one hiding spot to the next.
At 0:43, you’ll see her tiny, frustrated stomp when Garlen gets to a couple of eggs first. And then the sweetest thing: he quietly drops one into Myrabelle’s basket. Three seconds later, she’s sprinting again. That’s her: quick feet, quick smiles and a heart that filled the yard.

Myrabelle was one of Gus' favorite classmates. We loved hearing him talk about playing with her. She is such a beautiful soul and her presence in this life was pure joy. We are praying for strength and peace for you and your family.

Myrabelle radiated joy while in class last year. She was always sweet, smiley, patient, and always got along so well with all the students. After school pick up, I usually heard a roster of who Ruthie played with at school, and that always included Myrabelle. We are utterly heartbroken for you all. A little slice of June in Hong Kong
After each school year, we return to Asia to visit our friends and family. On an early June afternoon in Hong Kong, Jane and Garlen ran a few errands, and I walked with Myrabelle to Victoria Park, a big public park in Causeway Bay with walking paths, sports courts and playgrounds.
We ended up at a playground, sharing a little cup of fries. In the clip, you’ll hear her smacking down on some fries and say, “Garlie, I love you,” and then slip into a taunting, goofy chant: “Garlen… Garlen…” Probably because she was sneaking his fries we were supposed to save for him. Mischief and love in the same breath; that’s our Myrabelle.
We’re sharing this because it sounds like her: bright, funny and full of love for her big brother. Thank you for watching and for loving her with us. If it brings a smile, feel free to leave a note or memory.
