I went with a friend to find a puppy for her son at the Barstow, Ca Humane Society, and I left with so much more. I stayed inside and browsed the area with the kittens/cats because it was over 112 degrees outside. There was a small white cat that was hiding in the back of her cage and I made some cute sounds and spoke in my cute animal voice, but the cat didn’t even flinch so I began to walk away and as I began to speak to another cat, a little white paw grabbed my key lanyard. The woman working there commented that she has never seen that cat so friendly with anyone. She explained that someone heard a cat meowing coming from a storm drain at the corner of Muriel and Armory. When Animal Control got down there, the mother cat and the other kittens had drown due to the storm we had just went through, and this white cat was all that was left. She had been at the Humane Society for some months, and I swear the cat picked me. I adopted her, named her Sugar because she was all white, but also because she was so sweet. As the years went by, we had adopted two more cats, and somehow another pure white one picked me, and just started living at our home. Sugar mothered every single one of the cats. She would let the new one eat before her when wet food was put down. Eventually, she waited until everyone had eaten and had their fill. She loved to head butt us, and sometimes she would hit so hard in our forehead that you’d hear a clink. When we would enter a room she was in, she would greet us with a two part meow that reminds me off a dirt bike sound. Meow-Rwow. Sugar loved to be carried like a baby. She would also put her arms on my shoulder and I’d carry her around like how you’d hold a baby you were burping. Sugar was so dainty, and elegant. She knew she was beautiful, and wanted you to notice. Sugar was very shy, but once she trusted you, she was your buddy for life. Sugar is survived by her human family, and the cat family. Sugar, I love you and I can’t wait until we are together again. Anyone reading this, please hug your fur babies and pet friends a little tighter. Be thankful we are all still here, and let’s say a prayer for those who aren’t.
