Muhammad's obituary

Muhammad Abu Bakir,  affectionately known as Abu and Sonny, passed away at age 81 at home in Altadena, CA  on February 6, 2023. Muhammad was a decorate in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, Ennis Haywood and his mother, Girlee Hulit also  his brothers Walter Haywood, John Haywood, Robert Haywood and sisters, Mary Louise Hayward, Mary Frances Dupree, Ida May Dancer and Mary Earl McAlister.  

Muhammad would go on to serve in the  United States Navy and the Army Reserves.    After serving in the Navy, Muhammad, decided that he was not going to work for anyone. He opened his own restaurant, New World Fast Food, in Los Angeles.  "He made the best burgers, cakes and cookies in the world".  During his time in Long Beach, he met and fell for Joan, who he soon married in1978. Muhammad and Maryam chose to settle in the town of Altadena, CA. After 1984, he studied and passed the State Contractors License Exam. His license is one of the oldest licenses in the state of California. When he wasn’t working, Muhammad had a passion for fishing and socializing and drinking coffee at Starbucks with friends.  He is survived by his wife Joan, his five daughters and one son, Mecca Temple, Rabihah Abu Bakir, Habeebah Kolleff(Ivan), Yasmeen Abu Bakir, Mary Jenoir(CJ) and Che Coleman(Dana). His sister, Barbara Lane(William), and his 11 grandchildren; Destiny Temple, Kenneth Norris, Andrew Kolleff, Donovan Temple, Asmar Morris, Ameerah Kolleff, Che Thomas Coleman, Lula Mae Morris, Nasir Temple, Amara Gillum and Adam Jenoir. He is also survived by a long list of nieces and nephews who "love Sonny". The family requests that flowers be sent to [location]. There will be a funeral services will be held as follows:
