Jank's obituary
On January 25, 2023, MSG Jank A Buck, a proud veteran of the United States Army who served our country honorably, passed away peacefully in his sleep and gain his wings in our Heavenly Father's Army.
The son of Daniel R & Edith Buck, Jank was born July 10, 1941, in Rock Creek, Tennessee and grew up with five of his brothers and one of his sisters in Muncie, Indiana.
In July 1958, at the age of 17, Jank enlisted in the US Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of E8 Master Sergeant, NCO. As part of this service, he served honorably at home on American soil and overseas in Germany, Vietnam, and Korea. He served two tours in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. His first tour is where he received the wounds in battle, January 1966, and was awarded the Purple Heart after being one of the few survivors in his battalion. It was for his heroic acts during the second Vietnam tour during an August 1966 battle, that gained him the Bronze Star for the lives he saved that day in battle. Jank retired from the US Army in January of 1981.
From the military, he went on to begin his next career in January 1981 as a JROTC instructor for Montgomery Public Schools in Montgomery, Alabama. He started as an instructor at Sidney Lanier High School, but spent the majority and end of his instructor career at George W. Washington Carver High School. At both schools, he made an impact on his students by preparing the next set of generations for life ahead whether they pursued a military or civilian career.
Jank is preceded in heavenly peace by both his parents, Daniel R & Edith (Dishman) Buck; his wife of 47 years, MSG Jennie Mae (Wigfield) Buck; five of his brothers, Joseph Buck, Donvil Buck, Clyde Buck, Ezra Buck, and Winford Buck; both of his sisters, Ora Buck and Flora (Buck) Johnson; and three of his sons (triplets), Daniel Buck, Roy Buck, and Ray Buck.
Jank is survived by his brother, Danny Buck (wife Barbara); eight children, Rocky Buck (wife Dawn), James Buck (wife Pam), Edith (Buck) Bruce (husband Daniel), Jenilee Buck (fiancee' Trevelle), Sallyrose (Buck) Collins, Tremont Buck, Jank Buck, II, and Bryan Buck; Special Add-on Children Donna Renfroe and Michael Coy; several grandchildren and a handful of great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and, a lot of very special children gained through recruiting and teaching.
His loved ones will remember the dedication and honor he had in serving his country. The impact that he had on the world is far more greater than Jank even imagined. He always nurtured his family for several generations with unconditional and unwavering love. For generations to come, the impact he had while here will be felt by many! While alive he saved lives on the battle field, in the classroom, and on the home front. His memory will save lives with generational curses being broken and life lessons being passed down through the generations to come from his children.
A small, private dinner honoring the life of MSG Jank A Buck will be held amongst the family. A larger memorial dinner honoring Jank's life will be held for all those outside of the family to attend and share their stories with one another. Details of public dinner will be released later. Jank and his wife's ashes will be buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, in Cumberland, Maryland, at a later date.
