Montie's obituary

Montie LaVern Olson was born January 20, 1944 in Powers Lake, ND to Carroll and Betty Joan (Lucy) Olson. Montie has two sisters, Linda (Olson) Carmody and Carolyn (Olson) White. The family later moved to Tioga. Montie graduated from Tioga High School.

After high school, Montie attended North Dakota State University. Montie enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served two years. While in the army, Montie was stationed in Germany where he had several duties. He loved the mountains and enjoyed showing his family slides of the German countryside.

Montie married Pauline (Hassler) Solberg on December 19, 1969. As a newlywed, he returned to his agricultural studies at North Dakota State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. Montie and Polly lived in Fargo while he worked for Guaranteed Mutual Insurance. They later moved to Fergus Falls, MN where he taught Vet’s Ag to veterans. They worked for local ranchers while in eastern ND and western MN.

Montie and Polly moved together to Tioga in 1976. Daughter Misty Rose was born later that year. While working for Aminoil, he and purchased land and a farmstead in 1980. Daughter Jessie Lyn was born later that year. The family raised pigs and cattle. Saddle horses were a major part of family life on the farm. Montie and Polly divorced in 1990 but remained friends. Montie and daughter Jessie began training horses early in her life. They loved the great outdoors and time spent together.

Montie was a man of great faith. He was a strong Christian man who loved to visit about God. He taught his children and grandchildren to love the Lord. Montie has four Grandsons: Jessie Seibel, Joshua Seibel, Isaiah Olson, and Ian Sabbe. Montie was an important man to all of the boys. The family loved to have cookouts, go on camping trips, and attend rodeos together, staying busy between fun and work.

Montie fulfilled his lifelong dream of being a farmer, a caretaker of the land and livestock. He loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul, and mind. He was a prayer warrior. He volunteered countless hours to operating as a telephone prayer partner to those in need. He also attended group prayer calls weekly. He toured Israel with his mother just a few years before her passing.

Montie was a cowboy through and through. He loved to ride horses. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to spend time with his family.

Montie grew old and wise and lived a beautiful life with a happy heart, no matter the circumstances. He passed away unexpectedly and tragically on November 23, 2022. He was accompanied in his passing by his loyal dog “Joy” and kitten “Old Yeller.” Our hearts will never be the same. His memory will be treasured and honored.
